Our Privacy Policy

At Inkwire, we have no interest in profiting from your personal data. Seriously, that’s not what we’re about.

What we do care about:

1. Creating great software that delights us and our customers.
2. Behaving ethically in every business decision and practice.
3. Respecting and protecting the rights of our customers, including their right to privacy.

In practice, this means:

1. We aim to be fully transparent with our customers about the collection and transfer of data.
2. We carefully consider what information we actually need to deliver the best user experience and to communicate with our customers. If we don’t need it, we don’t want it.
3. We limit our use of third-party services to those which are essential to our business (like web hosting, app stores and payment gateways) and those which provide genuinely useful features to our customers (like cloud sharing and syncing), giving preference to companies that respect user privacy.

1. Transparency

Transparency is about NOT collecting or sharing personal data without your knowledge and consent. Our apps respect your privacy as much as we do, and do not secretly access personally identifiable information (private data that can be used to identify or contact a single person) from your device, like your location, photos or personal contacts. If one of our apps requires such data to deliver a useful feature, it will first ask you for your explicit permission, and then only use that data for the stated purpose.

The Inkwire website does not use browser cookies by default, but may use them when necessary to connect with third-party services. (See ‘Third-party services’ below.)

We do not use any form of cross-site tracking. Our website is free of tracking code from Google, Facebook and other advertising networks. (We may use non-targeted advertising and/or affiliate links in the future, provided they do not share personally identifiable information.) We use AWStats server software to collect anonymous site usage data.

We take an opt-in approach to email marketing, rather than an opt-out approach.

2. Collection and use of information

If you willingly share information with us (e.g. provide us with your email address, or send us feedback on a product) we will store it and act on it in accordance with our legal responsibilities, this Privacy Policy, our ethical values, and common sense.

If you send us any feedback, feature requests or unsolicited ideas, you agree that we may use these submissions and their contents without limitation and without any compensation to you.

Our apps may collect and use technical data and related information, including technical information about your device, system and application software, and peripherals, to facilitate the provision of software updates, product support, and other services to you. We may use this information in a form that does not personally identify you, to improve our products or to provide services or technologies to you.

Our apps may connect to one or more remote servers in order to validate your software licence and to provide useful functionality. This functionality may include:

• the storing and syncing of files using a secure cloud computing service (like Apple iCloud)
• downloading relevant content to the app
• product support
• app updates.

We may request, collect and store personal information such as your username, real name, contact details and email address in order to:

• provide you with access to software you have paid for
• provide you with access to any of your data that is stored/synced via a secure remote server
• communicate with you regarding the software or service.

We do not collect or store credit card information, as payments are handled through trusted third-party services. (See ‘Third-party services’ below.)

We do not send unsolicited emails (spam). We will only send you news and announcements (useful tips, new product announcements, special offers, etc) if you have opted in to receive these emails, and you can, of course, unsubscribe at any time if you don’t find these useful.

3. Third-party services

We do not sell or share your personal data with third-party advertisers.

We use the following trusted third-party services to provide essential services and useful features:

• Quantum Core provides the infrastructure for our site’s web hosting.
• Paddle provides the digital delivery platform for selling software from our website, and handles the processing of online payments.
• Mailchimp handles our mailing lists. (We have opted out of their data analytics projects.)

These companies have access to data that passes through their systems as necessary to perform the service they provide (e.g. order information for processing an order, payment details for processing a payment, etc). When you visit our site, Paddle detects your country in order to show you localised pricing.

Questions and updates

I (Kal Starkis) am the founder and owner of Inkwire and personally wrote this Privacy Policy. Privacy protection is one of our core values at Inkwire. My sincerest intention in writing this policy is to inform you (and all our customers) about how and why we use your data, and to assure you that your trust is well placed when using our website and our software. If you experience any aspect of our product or service that gives you concern or that seems to contradict these policies in any way, or if you would just like more information about how we protect your data and privacy, please contact me using our feedback and contact form.

Inkwire may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If those updates are substantive, we will provide notice by writing ‘(Updated)’ next to the link in our website footer for a period of at least 30 days.
